Weekly Update Week 20

AL East- Well things are no longer a flip flop everyday. In my opinion this past weekend was HUGE for the Yanks, Sox, and Rays. The Yanks have BREATHING ROOM in the Al East. Just like 2006, the Yanks sweep the Sox and the Sox spiraled downward in 2006. This year they have lost 6 straight and face the Tigers and Rangers. The Rays play the Angels (who are good) and Toronto (who is ok). The thing is both team HAVE TO win the Yankees can breath. This is excellent. AL Central-Detroit has not as much breathing room, but a breath here or there. The White Sox and Twins just have to FOCUS! AL West- The Angels are fine as usual and the Rangers have been hot since the break. The Rangers could get into the wild card spot. NL East-Florida swept the Phillies in an exciting series making it only four games in the NL East. NL Central- With Pujols getting ready for the stretch the Cubs have to fight hard and try to do somewhat of what the Yankees did. NL West- The Dodgers and Rockies that is what I want to see in the Playoffs. The Rockies play San Fran twice this month in two three-game series. All they have to do is win those.

Weekly Update Week 19

AL East-The tables have turned again! The Red Sox are only a half game out of first place. My prediction is that this will flip flop all the way into October. What does each team have to do? Win the series. The Yankees especially have to sweep when they play each other, but the Sox want to keep their streak alive. Each team should try to sweep the other team they play this week. The Yankees play Toronto and the Red Sox play the Rays. Personally the Rays, are way out of it to play catchup. The only thing the Rays could do now is help the Yankees stay in first by defeating the Red Sox or help put the Red Sox in first by defeating the Yankees. AL Central-The AL Central is another flip flop division. The White Sox have good stuff, but unfortunately they have to play the hottest team in baseball, the Angels. The Twins play Cleavland so I assume the Twins can be in second by the end of the week. Detroit is in first, but will not stay in first. AL West-As usual, the Angels rule the AL West. Hopefully, they will not mess up in the playoffs like the have a few times before. NL East- The Phillies have the same advantage the Angels do is they rule the division, but when the Phillies get into the playoffs, it will shock them not every team is as bad as an NL East team. As for the trade deadline, the Phillies won it with Cliff Lee. NL Central-Another tight division. The only problem for the Cardinals is Pujols has been flat since mid-July. NL West- All the Dodgers have to do is practice for post-season ball.

Weekly Update Week 18

AL East-What a week. The tables have turned in Red Sox Nation. The Yankees are on top of the AL East, but I would not celebrate too quickly. The key for the Yankees this week is to win a few of the games. The Rays are the silent killers in the division race and other than CC Sabathia the pitchers are pretty even. Burnett is still not a guarantee and Chamberlain is too young. As for the Red Sox, the A's and Orioles are not so great. Everyone gets an occasional easy week. AL Central-I am personally cheering for the White Sox in this race. Detroit is on top of the division though. Minnesota is still in the race! I can not stand the Twins most of the time, but I would like Mauer to improve his team. Kansas City will need to have a lot more than a Grieke to have any chance. AL West-I would like the Rangers to take the wild card. Not only to knock the Sox out, but I like Hamilton and with Nolan Ryan in the front office the Rangers are a new team this year. The Angels are just good! NL East-I think the Phillies have that division wrapped up in a package. Everyday the Mets look sadder. The Marlins could trade for Roy Halladay. I do not know who they would give to Toronto. NL Central-This is another division where things have changed. Cubbies! The Chicago Cubs are on top. I did not realize what that meant to the Cards. You see the team in second place is already two and a half games out of the wild card. NL West-The Dodgers also have their division clinched. Colorado and San Fran will be battling into September for second place. I am personally cheering for Colorado.

Home Run Derby

I did not particularly enjoy last night's derby. I found it disappointing on who was invited. If I could replace people I would replace Adrian Gonzalez and Brandon Inge. To fill the National League spot I would put in Raul Ibanez. As for Inge, I would choose Mark Texeria or brought Josh Hamilton back. All of these players are playing in the game tonight, but I think should have been in the derby. My only other thought is that Pujols disappointed the home-town crowd.

Weekly Update Week 16

Happy All-Star Break! This week was not the most exciting week in the MLB, but leaves each team in an interesting place at the half. AL East- MLB does not schedule very fairly. The Red Sox played the absolute easiest team in baseball and the Yankees played one of the hardest. I would count out Toronto and Baltimore now, but Tampa is still very alive. AL Central-Detroit looks pretty solid this week, but will have to work hard to retain its top spot. The Twins are very strong, and the White Sox are not too shabby. The Royals are pretty much a triple A team and the Indians are just misunderstood. AL West- The Angels are a very good ball club, but the Rangers are growing into a new rival out west. The Mariners are still in the running, but are an unlikely contender to win the division. The A's have no chance. NL East-How the heck did the Mets go from first to being 6.5 games out? That division is very rocky. NL Central-Everybody in NL Central is pretty good, but I think the Cubs can really save things and steal the division or at least the wild card. NL West-The Dodgers are the current best team in baseball with or without Manny no one in that division is too good either.

Thoughts On the All Star Team

I just wanted to share my thoughts on the All-Star teams matchups. First of all, based on inter-league play I am guessing the American League will cream the National League. I will go by position. 1st Base- Texeria vs Pujols. It will be a battle of home runs indeed. This may be the Yankee fan in me, but Texeria wins the matchup. Based on homers no, but Tex is the better overall player. 2nd Base- Pedroia beats Utley at second base not only offensively, but defensively. Pedroia makes more clutch plays than any Red Sox player. 3rd Base-I personally feel that David Wright beats out Evan Longoria. Experience. Longoria has only been playing in the big leagues for a year and a half and in opinion got lucky last year. David has always been on the wrong team. Honestly, he has been voted in by popularity this year. Shortstop- Jeter has been having an amazing year and not even the talent Hanley Ramirez can beat Captain Clutch. Although, the matchup is going to be good to watch. Outfield- The outfield is just about even in both leagues.Ryan Braun and Jason Bay will be the star in the field, but no one else shines in the outfield. Pitching will not be too even and will landslide after the 8th inning. With Rivera, Papelbon, and Nathan wrapping up the game by the 8th inning the game will be in the bag. I hope everyone enjoys their All-Star Break and keeps tuning into the Baseball Blog.

Weekly Update Week 15

As baseball awaits the All-Star Break, the divisions are getting tighter. AL East- The Yankees are only one game behind the Red Sox which is very exciting. The Yankees will be on the road this week without a Wang. Posada is their secret weapon right now and probably second best catcher in the game today, only beaten by the Twins leader Joe Mauer. The true challenge of the week for the Yankees is if they can win at least 2 of the 3 games against LA this weekend. The Angels are a very talented team and if the Yankees can take 2 of 3 it will be a sign that the Yanks can not be messed with come October. The Rays are just about out of the playoff race at the moment, but with Longoria leading them can not be counted out. AL Central- The Tigers continue to be great in the AL Central, but nobody should count out Minnesota, and Chicago. Both teams have a decent amount of talent and can steal that division. AL West- WHAT a race! The Angels and the Rangers are TIED. Usually come the All-Star Break the Angels are building a 10 game lead over the second place team. The Rangers just need Hamilton to hit better. NL East- If anyone knows how to lose a close game, it would be the Mets. They have moved to third place and are going down. As for the Marlins, they are only one game behind the Phillies and are cruising up the standings. NL Central- It is still the Brewers game. Even though the Cardinals are in first that will not last long. The Brew Crew may see another playoff berth. NL West- Manny is back. Honestly, he is like an add-on to a stupendous team. With Torre leading them whoever plays the Dodgers should feel fear going through themselves. The Dodgers are pretty safe throughout their division.

Stadium Review-Citi Field

This weekend I saw the Subway Series and was impressed by Citi Field. For one thing, the Mets actually built a baseball stadium. In my opinion the Jets should have remained in Shea. Also, the Mets did not put their parking lot on their stadium. I would give it 4 stars total. Another thing I liked about the stadium was that unlike Yankee Stadium you actually had to try to hit a home run. The left field wall was a decent challenge, but I feel that center field was too far out. I also thought the dimensions were very unique and from above the stadium looked similar to a mixed up Rubix Cube (in a good way). One unoriginal thing I found was that Citi Field and Busch Stadium were too similar. I have always been a sucker for the brick stadiums and look forward to the Yankees beating the Mets in Citi Field.

Weekly Update Week 14

Welcome to the Weekly Update. I will do this every Monday until the end of the season. I will go division by division. AL East- LETS GO YANKEES!!! The Yankees are only one sweep behind the Red Sox to gain the first place spot. Being that the Yanks are not playing the best teams this week, the Mariners and the Blue Jays. Unfortunately the first place Red Sox play the even worse Orioles and then Seattle like the Bronx Bombers. It should be very interesting in the middle of the division as the Blue Jays and the Rays battle it out for third place. Honestly I would go with Longoria and his Rays over Halladay and his Jays. AL Central- I do not know what happened in Detroit last year, but they have only lost two of their last ten and seem to just keep getting better. If Mauer pulls his team together then they will succeed, but as of now the Tigers are going to steal this division. AL West- The AL West race is what to watch this week in the American League because everyone is going to be very tough between the Angels and the Rangers. Now Vlad should be in the zone which will make it tougher for the Rangers. NL East- Very tight for an easier division. Watching inter-league play this past weekend realized the American League is going to smoke the National League in St. Louis this year. I believe that the Mets have too many injuries to pass the Phillies, but could get in via the wild card. The Braves do not look too shabby either. NL Central- I've always had a soft spot for the Cubs, but it does not look too good on the Chicago horizon. The Reds are even ahead of the Cubbies! NL West- The Dodgers have no competition with or without Manny.
